This case is a hard one and has remained unsolved to this day! It seems like it would definitely be a case for Sherlock Holmes! The Isdal Woman was found dead in the Isdalen Valley, Bergen, Norway. On the afternoon of November 29, 1970 a man and his two daughters were hiking the foothills of the north face of Mount Ulriken in Isdalen Valley. While hiking they came across a body of a partially-charred female among some rocks in the area known as "Death Valley" they also found a dozen pink phenobarbital sleeping pills which were brand name Fenemal, a packed lunch, an empty quart bottle of St. Hallvards liqueur, two plastic bottles that smelled of petrol, and a silver spoon with the monogram filed off. Investigatiors also found a burned passport. After the autopsy was concluded it was discovered that the woman died from Fenemal and carbon-monoxide poisoning. The test on her blood showed she had taken at least 50 sleeping pills. Her face was burned so bad that it made her unrecognizable, her he was bruised possible by a blow, and her finger prints had been sanded away. Her teeth indicated she had been to a dentist in the far east, central/southern Europe or South America. police launched a full-scale investigation and composite sketches based on witness descriptions and analysis of her body. The sketches circulated in many countries via INTERPOL. They found two suitcases that belonged to the woman at a NSB railway station in Bergen. In the lining of one police discovered 500 Deutsche Mark. They also found clothing in which all identifying labels were removed. (To me this sounds very similar to the Tamam Shud Case which makes me wonder if the two people are linked in some way) also found was a lotion prescription (doctors name and date were removed from the label) 130 Norwegian Kroner, silver spoons similar to the one found with her body at the crime scene. Partal finger prints were found on a pair of sunglasses in the suitcase, and also found were some diary entries. Police later concluded that the diary entries were coded dates and places the woman had visited. An unusual dress was found as well and from that police determined the woman has a provocative style with Italian taste. An Italian photographers postcard was found in the woman's suitcase. when police spoke with the photographer he said that he had given her a lift to Hotel Alexandra in Loen. He also said he had dinner with her. The photographer told police she had told him that she was from a small town north of Johannesburg South Africa and that she had six months to see Norway's most beautiful places. It was discovered that "Isdal Woman" travelled around Norway and Europe with at least eight false passports. Eventually police concluded that she committed suicide. I personally find that hard to believe she may have taken a bunch of pills but she wasn't the one who set her self on fire there was nothing found at the scene that she could have used to light the fire that burned her and even if it had been burnt up in the fire there would have been traces of it that the investigators would have found. I think someone did this to her but that is just my opinion. This case and the identity of this woman still remains unsolved. What are your thoughts on this case? Story: Unsolved Murder / Cold Case
Location: Kennett Missouri Name: George Conder Details: 49 year old George Conder went on November 26, 1996. Conder was last seen on November 25, 1996 by many people in the Kennett and Campbell Missouri area. According to reports Conder stopped at a convenient story to purchase some items and Conder was seen at this store by many witnesses who reported seeing him there. At the time of his disappearance Conder was reported to be wearing tennis shoes, blue jeans and a T-shirt with a camo jacket. A missing persons report was filed and then family members and friends formed a search party and began looking for him. According to the police reports his truck was found by a relative the day after his disappearance on November 27, 1996 off of County Road 411 on the side of the levee. The keys to his truck were lying in the ash tray. The truck was then taken and processed by investigators from the Highway Patrol to be investigated and searched for any evidence or clues that would help with the investigation. During the Investigation of the truck it was discovered that two items were missing from the truck. (1) a white toolbox from the interior of the truck and (2) a CB radio. Almost 3 months later Conder's Skeletal remains were found on Febuary 23, 1997 by a Holcomb Missouri resident just west off of highway B in the St. Francis River area. Conder's remains were found wrapped in black plastic bound together with nylon rope. Found along with the remains were a wallet, and a drivers license that identified the remains to be that of George Conder. The next day on Febuary 24, 1997 Conder's remains were transported to Farmington Missouri to be examined by a forensic anthropologist for an autopsy. After the autopsy, the cause of death was ruled as a gun shot to the head possibly by a small caliber weapon. Law Enforcement did state that at the time there were a couple of people of interest in this case but no arrests had been made to to the lack of information and evidence. Conder was raised in Kennett Missouri and attended school in Kennett Missouri. Reports say he was a very likable person. Sometimes Conder was known to stay in Campbell with his girlfriend at the time. Law enforcement also report that in the past he was also known to be involved with marijuana growing in the area. Was this a drug deal gone bad? Was someone angry at Conder? or was this simply a wrong place at the wrong time situation? No one knows except for George Conder and his killer... This Cold Case is still considered to be an ongoing investigation by the Dunklin County Major Case Squad, the Dunklin County Prosecutors Office and the Division of Drug and Crime Control of the Missouri Highway Patrol. If you or anyone else has any information regarding the death of George Conder you are urged to call the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office at (573) 888-2424. Story/Case: Unsolved Murder Location: Cape Girardeau County between Delta and Chaffee Missouri Name: Deborah Manning Details: Deborah Manning's body was discovered on July 5, 1983 a little after 12:30am by an off duty Chaffee Police Officer. on County Road 249 Between Delta and Chaffee Missouri. Deborah's nude body had been dumped and She had died from several stab wounds the most fatal wound being to the heart. Lt. James said "She had been Violently assaulted. It was brutal and violent." There are many unanswered questions about the murder case of Deborah Manning that still to the day remains unanswered and unsolved. Deborah Manning was a 27 year old divorced mother of 3 she moved to Cape Griardeau in 1983, She worked as a maid at a hotel for her stepfather's business along with her sister Barbara. Deborah's three children Brandon, Rodney, and Amanda lived with their father Jimmy Manning in Sikeston Missouri. On July 4, 1983 Deborah left her parent's home Nancy Lane at 10:00pm She was presumed to be walking to her apartment at 401 South Pacific. Hours later, her nude body was found on county road 249 by the off duty Chaffee police officer. Deborah's clothes were found about a half mile south strewn along the right side of the road as if they had been tossed out the passenger side window. There were tire track of her killers vehicle were found and were customized wheels which makes identifying the killers vehicle almost impossible! Witnesses stated Manning stopped at a bar called the Candlewick off of South Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau after she left her parent's home. The case ultimately comes down to two suspects. Witnesses stated that both men left the Candlewick with Manning but there was never enough evidence to obtain warrants for the men. The Major Case Squad had been formed a few weeks before Manning's murder but was not called in to investigate. Herman "Bob" Gribler was the county sheriff in 1983 and he stated the case initially looked like it could be solved with in a few hours, but things later fell apart when a convincing lead didn't pan out. Sheriff Gribler said "I still feel there's someone who knows something and for whatever reason won't come forward and give this family closure. The only way i can see it being solved is if somebody accepts responsibility and comes forward, because somebody knows!" Brandon, Deborah's son remembers his mom leaving her parent's house that night in a huff. They were all at Deborah's parent's house including Deborah's ex-husband for the 4th of July celebration. Brandon stated that his mom (Deborah) wanted to visit some of her friends across the river in Illinois but Brandon age 10 at the time was against her going he said. Deborah argued with Brandon and his father and left her parent's house alone. The 5 three-ring binders detailing the investigation have been passed around the county's detective squad ever since and they discuss it on the anniversary. While looking over the notes and witness statements, detective Eric Friederich examined a few pieces of physical evidence. Including the victim's underpants found lying alongside the road. He detected a specks of fluid that had not previously been cut from the material and collected as evidence. The specks could contain the DNA of Deborah's Killer. It was believed that two suspects worked together to kill Deborah. The new evidence found by Friederich will be sent along with blood, hair and Saliva samples for DNA testing. Friederich said that the bite marks on her breasts may also be examined by a forensic ontologist and compared to the dental cast taken from suspects. Many things go in to solving a case like this and without the hard work of the investigators it would not be possible. This is a crime scene photo of the location that Deborah Manning’s body was found on July 5, 1983. The two marked-off sections show tracks of from a vehicle that investigators believe brought Manning's body to the scene. Investigators believe she was left in the ditch to the right and crawled into the road. Story/Case: Unsolved Murder
Location: Delta Missouri Name: Bonnie Huffman Details: Bonnie Huffman's body was discovered in an over grown ditch on the July 3rd 1954. Her 1938 Ford was parked about 2 miles from her body in the middle of Highway N just outside of Delta Missouri. Bonnie's Murder has been named on of Missouri's most baffling unsolved murder mysteries! Bonnie's case files sit in a cardboard box underneath Sgt. Eric Friedrich's desk at the investigations office of the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department. Not a lot is left of the Huffman case but every so often Sgt. Friedrich will get calls with tips that could possible help or solve the case. Bonnie was a young teacher and her murder was a very disturbing and heinous! She was found found curled up with her neck broken near an open culvert along Route N just north of Delta Missouri. On July 3rd 1954 a strange odor caught the attention of an Allenville couple. The odor let the Allenville couple to the location of Huffman's body 60 hours after she was murdered. Many suspects have been interviewed and have since passed away. The investigators are still baffled to this day the investigators still have no new evidence to bring them closer to solving her case. The most recent information investigators have received was from a Texas woman who contacted Sgt. Friedrich stating she had become aware that one of her late relatives she stated that before his death in 1998 he had confessed to the rape and murder of a woman near Delta, but like every other tip trying to prove this tip is true seems nearly impossible! Fredrich states when a new lead crosses his desk he chases and investigates it as far as it can go, but it can tend to get frustrating! Fredrich still believes that a a letter sent back in 2004 from Florida contained detailed description and that it had to have come from someone who had been at the scene of the murder that night. The person who wrote the letter recalled driving back from a dance that evening and seeing a car stopped at the curve of Route N about a half-mile from Delta. "Back then, people would stop to help someone. I did," the person wrote in the letter. When the writer of the letter pulled over, two men began hollering for that person to get out, and one tried to grab the driver (letter writer) and pull them out of the car, the letter said. "Why I tried to help I will never know, because without the help from God I would have been killed," the writer wrote. While the men struggled to get into the car, the writer managed to get the clutch in and shift, only to have the two people rush to their car and try to block the road. The letter included a detailed rough drawn map of the area near where Huffman's body was found. Friedrich said that it had been mailed to 40 S. Sprigg St., the address of the Cape Girardeau Police Department, where Huffman's body was taken after its discovery. Most of what was written in the letter was "right on the money," Friederich said, including the fact that there had been a dance nearby in Ancell that night. Just about every year Sgt. Friedrich resubmits a latent fingerprint found on Huffman's car to AFIS, the national database containing prints of convicted felons, but so far no luck with the finger print. |
